Laboratory Testing

“Why guess, when you can assess”

Naturopathic Doctors have unparalleled access to personalized laboratory testing. Ranging from basic laboratory tests, to functional medicine tests, hormone panels, heavy metal testing, food sensitivity testing, and beyond. Currently Ontario Naturopaths can order 194 different tests to support your optimal health.

Are my tests covered by OHIP?

No. Laboratory testing provided by naturopaths is not covered by OHIP. This allows naturopathic doctors to order tests based on signs and symptoms, personal and family history, and a desire for greater understanding of the optimal health of an individual, rather than just on guidelines from the provincial government.

Your tests may be covered by your private health insurance. Most providers do cover laboratory testing, check with your provider for details.

What testing is available?

There are nearly 200 tests that are offered in my Toronto clinics. Some of the most common options include:

Basic laboratory testing (cholesterol, blood panels, blood sugar, liver function)

Food sensitivity testing

Hormone testing, including salivary, blood testing and the DUTCH comprehensive hormone test

Complete thyroid panels (including TSH, antibodies, rT3, free T3 and T4)

Fertility assessments

Heavy metal testing

Autoimmune panels

Fatigue and energy panels

Candida testing

Comprehensive digestive stool analysis

SIBO testing (small intestine bacteria overgrowth)

Vitamin D testing

Intracellular micronutrient testing

While naturopathic doctors are not currently able to order genetic testing for MTHFR, COMT and other polymorphisms, Dr. Watson is able to discuss the results of these tests with you and help you develop a protocol for these common genetic SNPs.

What is the cost of testing?

The cost of testing is set by the various laboratories that I use in practice. You are welcome to inquire to the cost of any test by contacting me at this link: Work With Me.
